The top two questions that I get are “What camera do you use?” and “Was that a taken on a Drone?” Taking epic adventure photos can be hard & I don’t always have someone to press the shutter for some of the photos I take. These pieces of gear are not ALWAYS in our bag, but they are what I use in any given situation.
After 3 years of adventuring, taking photos, and waking up 3AM while creating content for my Social Platforms, I have learned a lot about the Camera Gear that fits all of my needs. This is my Adventure Photography Gear in 2022 that made the cut amongst all the other camera equipment I use.
One thing that I have learned is you do not need the most expensive gear to create good content. I have broken up this Camera Gear into PROFESSIONAL, HOBBIEST, and BEGINNER photography gear. You do not need to buy the professional level gear for creating memories, and would highly recommend getting something more budget friendly and spending the money on travel instead. We used to take all of my photos with the Sony A6300 when I first started, but have recently upgraded our system. The main reason that I upgraded my photographer gear is that I required higher resolution images for clients that I am are working with.
Cameras
Beginner Camera
This might be the best starter camera in the Sony Line. The A6000 Series is great for people just getting into photography, videography, and content creation.
This was my 1st camera & I used it for many years before upgrading. A huge selling point is that it is very lightweight
Action Camera
I use this little action camera for all my water & climbing adventures because of its portability & durability.
Every GoPro from the 8 and up will give you some of the highest quality videos in the action camera market.
Professional Camera
This is the best Hybrid entry level Full frame camera in the market.
It shoots 4k at 60 Fps & has a 33MP sensor for great still images. This camera has helped take my photography & videography skills to the next level
Lens
Crop Frame (Sony E-mount)
This was my go to lens when using my Sony A6300. This lens has a large focal range which is why I loved it so much. Wide enough for landscapes and long enough to get the telephoto compressed photos.
This lens is the best budget telephoto in the Sony Line-up.
Although it says 350mm on the focal range, it is a crop sensor lens so the actual range is 490mm.
I used this lens mostly for wildlife, far away mountain peaks, or intentional compressed images.
Professional Camera
Easily the best all around lens. It rarely comes off my camera. I use it for all my adventure & video shots.
Although it has a big price tag, your paying for a quality piece of glass that you can use on any of the Sony Mirrorless cameras.
Want to get that picture perfect wide angle shot of an amazing landscape? Or a crispy versatile wide angle video shot.
This lens is amazing for travel photography, and content creation.
They call this lens the nifty 50. If you only have enough money for one lens than this might be your lens.
The 50mm range Is about the range we see as humans. I’ve used this lens for portraits, & low light video sutations since it has an F-stop of 1.8.

Drones
Beginner Drone
I have used this drone on all types of adventures. I got this drone because of its lightweight specs & ability to still shoot 4k video at 60fps.
The camera takes 48mp still photos as well if you want to snap an aerial shot.
Professional Drone
The Mavic Pro 3 is for people are need a professional drone to perform on video/photo sets. This drone has 3 lens providing some of highest quality videos/photos the DJI drone line has to offer.
Tripods
Beginner Tripod
You have probably seen many bloggers with this tripod. They don’t use it just because Casey Neisat did.
This tripod is able to wrap around just about anything. It is super versatile when going out in nature and you don’t want to carry anything extremely heavy.
Professional Tripod
This is the adventure tripod I use to take all of my adventure & landscape photos. I also use it for majority of the videos I create for clients.
It’s made out of carbon fiber, so it’s durable and lightweight. It’s been through the narrows in Zion to freezing cold weather in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Acessories
This is the best piece of equipment if you’re a hiker who doesn’t want to keep stopping to pull your camera out of our bag or wear a neck strap while hiking.
Peak Design makes very high quality products that are meant to last, so if you invest in this accessory, just know it is built to last.
Camera Sensor Cleaner
Listen up, this one is important. Only use cleaning swabs to clean your camera sensor.
The last thing you want is to scratch your camera sensor & have marks on every photo & video. They make specific swabs for all cameras, this is the one that is made for cleaning full frame cameras.
Professional Camera Remote
If your’e ever wondering how I take all my photos, then you found it. This is the remote I use to take my adventure shots. I have taken shots up to 200-300 yards away from my camera.
It is made for Sony cameras, so if you’re not a Sony user, I would check online to find a remote that is built for your camera.
Polarizing Filter
This is the filter I use to photography water. Polarizer filters help reduce glare when photographing water.
Camera Bags
Daypack for camera
I used this bag pack on all of my short day hikes.
Its the perfect size to fit most of your camera gear & still have the whole top portion to fit a snack or jacket to take on your hike.
CAMERA fOCUSED BAG
They don’t make the exact bag that I have, but this is bag is almost identical to the one I have.
This bag is more camera gear focused, can still fit your laptop in it if you are traveling somewhere & need to work.
Camera Cube Insert for a Day Pack/Hiking bag
This is a camera insert cube, that can inserted into any bag.
This cube is perfect if you want to go on a long day hike & you want to take your hiking bag that is made to a more comfortable fit instead of your shoulders hurting with a camera bag on your longer hike.
Video Accesories
Beginner MicroPhone
This is the best beginner on camera microphone to record videos for YouTube, Short form content, or voice overs.
It truly is an affordable microphone that produces great quality for someone who is looking for an entry level mic.
Beginner ND Filters
If you wanting an entry level ND filter to help you achieve a more cinematic look to your footage, this will be the budget version for it.
Be mindful of the potential vignetting if turned the dial too far.
Intermediate ND Filter
This was a great 1st ND filter that felt like a quality piece of glass.
I would rank this in the intermediate range budget wise. Some of these ND filter from Freewell have magnetic covers, so that was a big plus when I bought it.
Professional Microphone
This microphone is great for someone is looking to get more advanced settings out of their microphone.
I upgraded to this shotgun microphone, because it has settings that help make sure it doesn’t clip the sound when there is high wind.
I personally love this microphone because the battery can be recharged vs the old rode mic pro had to get new batteries every time it died.
Professional DeadCat
If you adventure out in the mountains like me, chances are you have encountered high winds.
High winds are a microphones worst enemy if not protected right. I use this dead cat to cover my RodeMic pro + to make sure the wind doesn’t affect it.
Professional ND Filters
As far as Circular ND filters, this is the top of line. Polar Pro made a great product that includes this great piece of glass.
This is also a mist filter which helps create a more cinematic look to your videos.
This filter is a 2-5 stop, meaning its good to be used outside, but one its midday, you might need to put on a 6-10.
